Photovoltaic Industry News
Smart Energy Europe 2024 was recently held in Munich, Germany. The exhibition attracted more than 3,000 exhibitors from 55 countries and regions, including nearly 1,000 Chinese exhibitors, which is the first time that China has become the largest country in the exhibition. Chinese companies have showcased their innovative products and technologies in areas such as photovoltaics and energy storage to global customers. Representatives of Chinese and foreign enterprises and industry experts attending the exhibition believe that China's photovoltaic industry has significant advantages in technological innovation, cost control and value chain integration, and has contributed to promoting the global energy transition.
"Decarbonisation can only be achieved if all parties work together"
"Build a green, environmentally friendly and sustainable home", "Zero carbon emissions, start from me", "for future generations, use solar energy"... Slogans like these can be seen everywhere in the Munich Exhibition Center. Many booths are mainly green and blue colors, and some exhibitors directly use logs to build booths to highlight the theme of environmental protection.
Markus Elzesser, founder and CEO of German Solar Energy Promotion Company, one of the exhibition organizers, said that the global energy transition is unstoppable and the new energy industry is full of vitality. "By sharing the latest technologies and information on the platform, exhibitors will contribute to the energy transformation of all countries." Hannah Boehm, CEO of the Freiburg company for Economy, Tourism and Trade Exhibitions, which helped organise the fair, said: "The 'decarbonisation' goal can only be achieved if all parties work together. Smart Energy Europe brings together innovative and professional companies and talents from all over the world, generating inspiration that will propel us to a new world."
In recent years, with the growing demand for new energy, governments have introduced policies to support the development of green energy industries such as photovoltaic and wind energy. According to the International Energy Agency, the overall global investment in clean energy has maintained strong growth in recent years, the investment ratio of clean energy and fossil energy has reached 1.7:1, and investment in the photovoltaic field has exceeded investment in oil production for the first time in 2023. According to the "2024-2028 Global Solar Market Outlook" report released by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, the newly installed photovoltaic capacity in Europe in 2023 will reach 70.1 GW, more than double that of 2021; In the same year, the number of European households using solar energy increased by nearly 21 million. Wolberg Heimsberg, CEO of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, said: "The photovoltaic industry has a lot of room to grow."
According to the 21st Century Renewable Energy Policy Network's newly released "Global Renewable Energy Status Report 2024", the installed global renewable energy capacity will reach 536 GW in 2023, and the energy infrastructure must continue to expand, achieve digital transformation and become more resilient to meet the development needs of renewable energy. Rana Adib, executive director of the 21st Century Renewable Energy Policy Network, said: "This requires cross-sector and stakeholder engagement and long-term collaboration to invest in grid infrastructure and energy storage."
"More zero-carbon solutions for the European Market"
At this year's exhibition, the innovative products and technologies of Chinese enterprises in the field of photovoltaic power generation have become the focus of attention. In front of the booth of Aixu New Energy Company, the staff is conducting a comparison experiment of shadow occlusion power generation. Under the light of a high-energy light bulb, the electricity generated by the two photovoltaic panels fuels the water column of two small fountains. When the left and right two people each hold nearly 30 cm wide photovoltaic panels to push the cover horizontally, the water flow of the fountain on the right slowly stops gushing, while the left continues to gushing without being affected. Han Fu, deputy general manager of the zero-carbon business division of the company, said that the photovoltaic panel on the left has a unique anti-shadow blocking performance, which can effectively solve the pain point that the power generation of the component is greatly reduced in the case of tree shade, dust, snow and other shielding.
Daheng Energy booth, the company's main product - full screen photovoltaic modules are being demonstrated on the spot: the left and right two photovoltaic panels above the top of the tiny water poured down, the left photovoltaic panel bottom smooth without boundaries, water and debris quickly drip into the sink below; The bottom of the photovoltaic panel on the right has a metal frame a few millimeters wide, resulting in the retention of water and debris. Wang Ruifeng, sales manager of the company's Central Europe region, introduced that photovoltaic products need to have the ability to resist extreme climate and harsh environment, and provide reliable guarantee for large-scale power plants in special areas such as deserts, Gobi, mountains and oceans. The full-screen photovoltaic modules developed by the company can effectively resist the invasion of rain and snow, ensure stable operation, and generate power gain of 6%-15%.
Under the zero carbon goal, the global market has put forward higher requirements for the reliability and applicability of new energy applications. As an important foundation and key technology for building new energy systems, energy storage is an important part of the implementation process of zero carbon goals. At this exhibition, Chinese enterprises have brought a series of energy storage solutions to improve energy efficiency and solve photovoltaic deployment problems such as grid congestion.
On the booth of Xinwang Da Power Technology Company, the white energy storage cabinet neatly placed is simple and generous, beautiful and practical. Lu Jinlin, deputy general manager of the company's international Marketing Department, introduced that the Xinwang Da Power brought 2024 new "Xinyue" 625Ah large energy storage battery to the European Smart Energy Exhibition, which has the advantages of high energy density, long service cycle and low long-term use cost. Xinwangda Power is one of the first manufacturers to develop and mass-produce large-capacity energy storage cells, and its products are widely used in power, industry and commerce, home energy storage and other fields. "The company will continue to be innovation-driven and provide more zero-carbon solutions to the European market." Lu Jinlin said.
"Continue to promote the development of the global photovoltaic industry"
At this exhibition, Aixu New Energy Company officially signed a procurement contract with German HDG Technology Company, which will provide double-sided high-efficiency ABC components with an efficiency of more than 23.9% for the latter's 120 MW large-scale ground photovoltaic power plant project in Bavaria, Germany. This is one of the largest ground-based photovoltaic plants under construction in Germany in 2024. Pv modules are expected to be installed in September this year and connected to the grid in the first half of next year. TCL PV Technology and BNP Paribas Personal Finance Department held a signing ceremony to develop innovative consumer financial products that support sustainable projects to meet the diverse needs of different families, so that more families can use clean energy and participate in the green energy revolution.
China's development achievements in the field of photovoltaic and other new energy have also been widely praised by the industry. Elzesser said that every year at the exhibition can see the innovation results from Chinese photovoltaic companies. For example, Chinese photovoltaic manufacturers use less materials to create photovoltaic panels with higher photoelectric conversion efficiency, thus using less installation space for the same installed capacity. "The Chinese PV industry has established a complete value chain from raw materials to end products, and China's advanced manufacturers provide innovation impetus for the European PV industry." This is essential for the decarbonisation of European industry."
The "Global Power Review 2024" released by the British energy think tank EMBER pointed out that in 2023, thanks to the growth of photovoltaic and wind power generation, the proportion of global renewable energy generation exceeded 30% for the first time, and China contributed 51% of the world's new photovoltaic power generation and 60% of the world's new wind power generation. "The record growth in global PV capacity is largely driven by China." In the report "2024-2028 Global Solar Market Outlook", the European Photovoltaic Industry Association pointed out that China's new energy market is full of vitality, which has injected strong impetus to the development of the global photovoltaic industry. "If it were not for China's strong investment in the PV industry, the growth rate of the industry would have slowed significantly."
"China will continue to drive the global PV industry," said Sonia Dunlop, CEO of the Global Solar Council. She called on the international community to work together to provide financial and policy support for the development of the photovoltaic industry in order to promote the energy transition and achieve global climate goals.
